Clinical Clues

1. An older intact female rabbit is brought in after intermittent blood is noticed in the enclosure.
2. The owner is unsure whether the blood is urinary or reproductive in origin.
3. The rabbit has gradually lost condition over the past month.
4. Vulvar discharge is confirmed during examination.
5. Imaging identifies an enlarged, irregular uterus in an older entire doe.
6. Uterine adenocarcinoma is an important cause of reproductive tract bleeding in older intact rabbits.

Diagnosis

Rabbit Uterine Adenocarcinoma

This case is most consistent with Rabbit Uterine Adenocarcinoma because the intact doe has reproductive tract bleeding with uterine abnormalities on imaging. The most important clues are the age, sex, and uterine source of the hemorrhage, which make a simple cystitis less likely.
