Cat veterinary case - Medium - May 16, 2026
Clinical Clues
- A young indoor cat is visiting the litter tray frequently and passing only tiny amounts of urine.
- The owner has noticed licking at the perineal region and small blood spots in the litter.
- The cat is uncomfortable but the bladder is not grossly enlarged.
- There is a history of recent environmental stress in the household.
- Urinalysis supports inflammatory cystitis without evidence of full urethral obstruction.
- Feline lower urinary tract disease commonly causes pollakiuria, dysuria, and haematuria in young cats.
Diagnosis
Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease
This case is most consistent with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease because the cat has dysuria, frequent litter tray visits, and haematuria without a large obstructed bladder. The most important clues are the stress history and lower tract signs, which make urethral obstruction less likely.
